Russian Karabakh

This is an old Armenian carpet from the Karabakh reagion of the Southern Caucasus, dating between 1900 and 1910. We see the gol farangi as what might be described as its final highly stylised and simplified manifestation in two forms arranged in alternating diagonal rows on a black ground.
A reference to this rug can be found in Essie's book called "Persian Rugs and Carpets, The Fabric of Life" on page 415, plate 338.
